We chose Breakers Resort based on its website and positive reviews, hoping to try something new during our visit to St. Ignace. While there were some highlights: the beautiful Lake Huron view, peaceful beach area, quiet atmosphere despite the busy location, and comfortable beds, the overall experience didn’t live up to expectations. The staff was pleasant and the pool area was nice, but a strong chlorine smell lingered throughout the hallway. Stains on the curtains, broken-down chairs, and a thick layer of dust on the headboards made the room feel poorly maintained. The TV didn’t work, and although a note on the channel guide suggested calling maintenance, we decided not to bother since we weren’t there to watch TV. The bathroom was awkwardly laid out with a very small footprint. One particularly disappointing detail was a spill of blueberries on the stairs near our room that remained uncleaned the entire weekend, becoming embedded in the carpet. We also had dinner at the on-site restaurant, which was average at best. Overall, this property did not match the polished presentation on the website. It wasn’t a terrible stay, but it’s not a place we’d choose again

Comfortable and convenient

We stayed for two nights here and we chose it because of the beach and the closeness to the ferry to get to Mackinac Island. Our favorite things about our stay were the very warm pool and hot tub, the extra hooks in the bathroom for wet clothes and towels, and the breakfast. The concierge described the breakfast as “continental” but there were two waffle makers, cantaloupe and honey dew melon, biscuits and gravy, pork sausage and turkey sausage, premade veggie and cheese omelettes and scrambled eggs as well as the cereals and baked goods I expect with a continental breakfast. We also ate in the restaurant both nights, it is so convenient after a long day at the island. My son is a pizza connoisseur and their wood fired pizzas were in his top three pizzas of all time. We also loved having the shuttle pick us up right at the front door and take us to the ferry and the shuttle driver gave us the best tips on places to eat on the island. We had a wonderful experience and I thought was extremely reasonable for all the amenities. If I had any suggestions it would be another chair or two in the hotel room and on the balcony, and maybe a bedside lamp with some more plugs and charging ports.

Hotel is on an amazing beach on Lake Huron. Great beach bar outside and fire pits on the beach at night. Had a balcony room and the view was awesome. Complimentary breakfast was just okay. Hotel is dated but clean and the bed and pillows were super comfortable. Calling it a “resort” is a bit of a stretch. The concierge was not helpful and answered my questions with one word answers. Indoor pool and jacuzzi are nice. On site restaurant was pretty good for dinner and what would be considered fine dining for up north.

We enjoyed the lake side beach and view. We bought tickets to Mackinac Island through Sheplers and the shuttle service to the boat and back to Breakers was appreciated. Very clean and comfortable rooms.

The first room we had, someone had accidentally left the door open, and it had a lot of mosquitos that were in room and all over the door. The staff was nice enough to give us a new room, and were very apologetic. The place has a great view and nice beach.

Beautiful views. Hotel needs updating. Our sink leaked, sliding door lock was broken and the hotel room door did not lock from the inside. The actual doors to enter the hotel buildings did not lock so anyone has access to the property. It seemed as the key card pads were not working so you could just open all doors. Service at the restaurant was extremely slow and they did not offer all items on the menu. The one night we went to the Pizza Bar and were waiting for 25 mins only to be told that they were not offering pizza as they were short staffed. The entire stay was not worth the money that they charge.

My husband and I stayed at Breakers for 2 nights…a great choice! Our ground-level room was a direct walk to the beach only a few yards away. The staff members were friendly and helpful. The restaurants were delicious, especially the outdoor pizza oven and bar. This is a well renovated older hotel with great amenities. The biggest selling point is that beautiful beachfront. I am already planning my next visit!

The kitchenette was not well equipped or even basically stocked. Other than a sink and a countertop and stools it had nothing that most decent hotel rooms have. No utensils. No toaster. No paper plates. Just a fridge and a microwave. Not what I call a “kitchenette.”

Our stay at Breakers for a few days was great! The location, cleanliness and staff were wonderful. You can walk to food and local shopping. You can drive about an hour NW to “Rootbeer Falls” which was nice. You can drive 1 hr North to Canada for the day. The breakfast buffet, pizza restaurant , and Club restaurant were average. Very common food and conveniently located. Unfortunately our room was right across from the pool. Two of the nights, the chairs outside the pool became a hangout place so very loud while trying to sleep. Other than that, it was a very nice stay!

Wonderful resort after spending the day on Mackinac Island. The free breakfast buffet was typical food. Room had an amazing beach view allowing one to sit on the balcony and enjoy beach view and ambiance without getting sandy. The hot tub was enjoyable, crowded at times. Water was hot and jets were intense. The free shuttle to Sheplers ferry was efficient and prompt. We ate dinner one night at Breakers and was disappointed. We had extremely long wait for mediocre food served warm but not hot. We used a 20%off coupon for dining which the concierge gave us upon checking in. The concierge lady was friendly and helpful! Our room had a damp, musty odor and the entire hotel is dated but we did appreciate the free washer and dryer which came in handy for us.
