One word Appalling. We had visited this establishment for a drink on a previous occasion several months ago. With that is mind we booked one night to finish off a 6 day Cornwall road trip. On arrival we were shown to our £110 room. Dirty, dingy and desperately in need of modernization/decorating. Rachel used the toilet, it would not flush the 3 sheets of loo paper. Tried again 5 minutes later. Still no joy. Headed downstairs to discretely tell the proprietors. Was told it takes a long time to refill cistern. How long I asked? 5 minutes I was told. Anyway 10 minutes later and still nothing on third flush. Umm, not capable of flushing 3 sheets of loo paper, what chance of anything more substantial! Rachel headed downstairs to ask about moving to another room. She was told "the toilet will be ok" to which she replied "so if my partner has a poo and obviously it wont flush what will you do about it?" She was told that if that was the case they would have it looked at. Not good enough, paying £110 for a dirty room with non functioning toilet is simply unacceptable. We appreciate it is an old building, we too live in an old building but we do have flushing toilets! We left within 30 minutes of arrival, the proprietors were unconcerned that we chose to stay elsewhere! Not in the least bit interested in finding a solution. No refund so we're now pursuing recompense through our credit card provider. Appalling in every way. Perhaps tolerable in1920, certainly not in 2020.
