The room was very clean and comfortable at Hotel Callisto. The staff was courteous and helpful. The manager even carried our luggage up to our room and brought it back down when we were ready to check out. He gave us directions and offered helpful advice. The stairs were very steep. We were on the top floor so it was quiet at night. It was a memorable Dutch experience.

Our room was on the second floor, up some pretty scary steps lol. It was small and perfectly formed. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable and the heat worked nicely (it did get chilly in the night so we turned it on and warmed up quickly). It was obviously an older building but they had modernised it quite nicely, so all the modern amenities with rustic charm. It is also very conveniently located - 15 min walk from the station, 5 minute walk to Noordmarkt and another 10 mins or so to Jordaan. The restaurant was packed, but hoping next time we can eat there too. Definitely will stay here the next time we come to Amsterdam :))

Staff were friendly upon check in, brought our luggage up to the room while we explored before check in. Complimentary vouchers for the coffee shop next door was a nice touch but we only recieved 2 days worth for our 3 night stay after being told we would receive one each day. Stairs are steep so it could be a barrier foe those with mobility issues. Overall we were happy with our stay.

First impressions of the hotel were really good. The staff in the restaurant who handled the check-in were very friendly, and on walking into the room, it looked really nice. However, during our stay we found it to be a lot of style over substance with a real lack of attention to detail. For example, the rooms have Smeg kettles and tea and coffee is provided, but there are no teaspoons, milk or sugar. I appreciate that it is an old building, but it has clearly been refurbished, so why are there so few sockets and why are they in such inconvenient locations? Why were the lamps not working on arrival? We did work out that some of the bedside lamps could be charged using a phone charger, but we also had a plug-in bedside lamp which did not work and a dead bulb in one of the ceiling lights. One room, despite being quite spacious, had no chair. The only place to sit was on the bed. In one of the rooms, the hairdryer was falling apart. Why, during the online check-in procedure, was I asked for a credit card number for extras when there are no extras on offer? If we had eaten in the restaurant, we would have paid our bill in the same way as every other customer. There was also a stale smell in the rooms, and especially on the stairs. It wouldn't take much to change my opinion of this hotel, but the lack of attention to detail really let it down.

Very lively area with lots of cafes and restaurants, shops and supermarket close by. Well located. Stairs are challenging for older guests but it’s an old building so to be expected. Staff very helpful with check in and carried bags upstairs which was much appreciated after a very long flight.
