Seems like the more that a room costs the less you get. No fridge/micro, no window. When making a reservation, request a room w a window. Too claustrophobic without one. Beautiful historic hotel, nice breakfast nice balcony. Very clean. Nice coffee bar.

Gorgeous historical hotel

This a beautiful historical hotel located in a very convenient place to restaurants and bars. The rooms were beautiful, even the "inside" rooms without windows.

Beautifully renovated period hotel in a superb location in downtown Durango close to Railroad Museum, Durango-Silverton Railway, for walking to restaurants and shops. Staff are friendly and responsive. Good breakfast and afternoon cookie treats. However, for the coffee addict the hotel’s complimentary coffee service in the lobby and on each of upstairs floors will draw us back again as repeat guests.

The historic General Palmer Hotel offered the congenial gentility of its Victorian days with the amenities we expect today, without the ‘stuffiness’ of some of its fellow historic hotels. The staff was quick to smile an welcome us and even made accommodation adjustments that we didn’t even realize we would need. It is in the heart of town with an abundance of restaurants, shops and of course the famous Silverton Durango narrow gauge railroad within steps of the hotel. The room was smaller than some chain hotels, but we didn’t find it cramped and it offered all the amenities we expected and more. Our thanks to the staff and especially to the owner for offering a truly enjoyable stay.

We loved this older hotel! It was so quaint! We loved that it was within walking distance of everything downtown. The coffee, water, and hot tea at all times and fresh cookies truly was a lovely touch as well. Every staff member that we encountered was very nice and cordial. I definitely recommend this hotel!!

Go back in time

Great location next to rail yard and ambiance to go back to the 19th century. Staff were friendly and helpful. However, a 7:30 am train whistle may not be for everyone.

The general palmer hotel is an amazing choice for staying in downtown Durango. The service, the ambience, the beds, everything was delightful. The lobby is so nice to sit in and have a daily fresh baked cookie and peruse the huge selection of teas and coffee. It all has such a charm AND is at a really affordable price point compared to others in the area. I will definitely stay here again next time I’m in Durango!
