I’ve tried to like this property better. It’s in a great location for our adult children as first time visitors. The staff were perfectly pleasant and the dining staff for breakfast exceptionally so. The breakfast was set up nicely and had good selection. My complaints are these. It was sooooo hot in our room in October (60 degrees outside). (I am always cold so this is unusual for me). I don’t know if our room was over the spa or mechanical systems but we had to keep the window AND door open for any amount of airflow. There was one fan in the room. It only blew the hot air around. This meant we had to keep our first floor windows open the entire time. Our room overlooked Grassmarket and we had the pleasure of listening to every drunk person on the street until the wee hours. On our second night we wanted to stay in and order room service. Unbeknownst to us, regular room service stops at 9:00, but late night dining did not start until 10:00. We waited 45 minutes to place an order for food of relatively poor quality. Lastly, the fire alarms sounded at 7:00 a.m. as we were out packing to leave. We had to throw the last of our belongings into the bags to take them with us as we would not have time to wait for re-entry before catching our train. No time to even brush the teeth. Normally I’d excuse these safety measures, but I started looking at other past reviews that note Apex has an ongoing problem with their sensitive alarms. Not a place we will stay again.

Breakfast was an amazing selection of hot and cold foods. Good pubs and restaurants across the road. Staff were very pleasant. Reception stairs were difficult to manage with heavy suitcases, although we later found an external ramp.

Very disappointed with this hotel. Photos look better than the real room! Booked and upgraded to superior room for £50 more- total waste as I’d hoped to clearly see the castle! I could barely see it through filthy bedroom windows! Considering this was the selling point of the room, they should be cleaned! These windows also barely opened, there’s no air conditioning so the room was very hot! The bed was soo hard, probably one of the worst I’ve slept on which meant no sleep. The bathroom is dreadful!! Cracked floor tiles, mould and no ventilation!! Don’t book here

Staff was helpful, courteous and professional. Great locations, clean, comfortable beds. But our room faced the back of the hotel where the parking and trash was. Unfortunately, trash was strewn about and not placed in the dumpster. And most of the noise from the parking lot seemed to come from workers (wearing uniforms). However, the tub in the bathroom was something of a fall hazard with it's height. I acknowledge that Edinburgh is not he most disability friendly city with all it's stairs, inclines and narrow streets, and that is part of it's charm. however I did meet with a women in your front reception area who was disabled that was having an issue with getting her room. I wondered later if she would get a room with a bathroom like ours that was not disability friendly. Not great optics for you. However, I noticed this with most facilities in England as well. I may notice it more since I have multiple sclerosis and I occasionally write travel/information articles on this subject. Otherwise, I would return to this location.
