Charged extra fees,in addition to city tax. Beware

At check-in, I was unexpectedly asked to pay additional “taxes and fees” on top of the standard “city tax.” During previous visits to Paris, I’ve only ever had to pay the city tax at check-in—all other charges were included in the booking. I explained this to the older gentleman at the front desk and showed him my receipt, which clearly indicated that all taxes and fees had already been paid. He refused to look at it or acknowledge the issue. A Hotels.com representative contacted the hotel to clarify the situation, but the receptionist remained uncooperative and unwilling to admit any mistake. Eventually, Hotels.com agreed to reimburse me if I paid the extra charges, but only after several frustrating back-and-forth exchanges. Any additional fees required by the hotel should be clearly stated at the time of booking—not added at check-in—to avoid unnecessary stress and confusion for guests.

Perfect base for exploring Paris

5 minutes walk from the main train station (Gare du Nord) and 6/7 minutes walk from the Metro station (Poissonnière) made this an excellent base for exploring. I stayed on the top floor (6th floor) and was worried about the heat but there are large double door/windows and also a fan in the room so no issues there! Also there’s a lift which doesn’t seem to be too common among hotels in older style buildings in Paris so that was a massive bonus. I can’t comment on the breakfast as I didn’t have it, but the hotel staff that I met were lovely and very helpful. You’re asked to leave your room card at reception whenever you leave the hotel which isn’t something I’ve come across before but didn’t bother me. The only downsides were that the bed was very squeaky and the bathroom’s uniquely curved walls made showering a little awkward and caused a mini flood on the bathroom floor. This is likely only a problem specific to the room I was in however (62) and only happened the first time.

Lovely stay at Hotel Metropol

We had a lovely stay at Hotel Metropol! A perfect room for two with a nice bathroom. Great that the hotel had a lift too as we were on the sixth floor. The staff are amazing - so helpful, friendly, kind, and funny! Really close to Gare de Nord for connecting metros and trains. In walking distance to lots of shops, cafes and boulangeries! Thank you for having us.

Room was very small for a couple, we hardly had a room to place our 2 suitcases. No fridge, no kettle, no extra plugs to charge the phones, we found one on the bathroom that solved the problem. Taxes collected was too high 48 euros for 3 nights (at Venice our hotel collected only 21 euros for 3 night’s)

convenient for us

We just needed an overnight stay in Paris, it was central and close to Scare Coeur. It was in expensive so wasn't expecting the Ritz. It had 1 plug point for a family room with 3 beds, old quintessential building. The reception staff were great and very helpful. Fantastic patisserie on the corner of the street.

A very convenient stay in Paris

For the location and cost, this was perfect. It doesn't pretend to be a 5 star hotel, and the staff were very good. The room was small, but for a single occupancy, it was good and there was nothing lacking. With a 3 min walk to the Gare Du Nord, ideal.

Hotel is in a great location, and cheapest in the area, but the place is older. Its just a place to sleep. There is no Air conditioning so plan accordingly to the weather, i was really hot during my stay and i couldnt be in the room due to that, and there is only 1 power outlet beside the floor of the front door, and one by the sink of the washroom. Those are the two main concerns when staying here.

The Hotel Metropole is low quality accommodation. Small rooms, worn out foyer and public areas, broken hair dryer/power points, not particularly helpful staff, tin lift, awful breakfast room.

Staff was very friendly, and the room was very clean. The bathroom has been updated so the fixtures were in excellent condition. The tub is super deep!. We stayed there because it was close to the Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est. It is an older building (no surprise) and the decor is a bit tired, but those details were not important to us.
