I really loved this hotel, especially because of the unique history and decorum. After a long day of exploring, I felt like I was coming home, not a hotel. I also was a big fan of the actual keys and not key cards.
Very noisy all the time, the bathroom fan has loud noise that unbearable, the room doesn’t have refrigerator, doesn’t have a safe, other than that the room is larger than a regular hotel room
The hotel was charming with its old world style. Location was great for getting to many popular places. My only beef was parking. The valet parking was not part of the hotel. While it was right next door it was full, so we had a last minute scramble to find a parking place. We found a place by Market Street. The hotel wasn’t able to offer any other options besides the full place next door.
Keys were left in an envelope on the office door when we arrived. A worker was painting and dropping something in the adjacent room every 30 seconds until 8:15pm or so.
Points for trying -- some new paint and punchy colors in the bathroom, and some new finishings.
However, upgrades were not done well... Grout done poorly in the bathroom; space around the bottom and sides of the door to the outside; sink makes a ton of noise and has issues with air/draining; holes in wood paneling in the room. And the kicker-- no hot water.
Kudos for the new paint and work to spruce the place up. However, I left a message last night once I eventually found your phone number. We still don't have any hot water this am, so we won't be able to take a shower before we leave. Campgrounds in town have hot water showers, and your place doesn't appear to be ready for the high season (Memorial Day is less than a week away). I wish we hadn't stayed here. Checking to see about a refund, if we can reach anyone.
For charm and access to history but also with modern amenities, this is a wonderful hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. Next time I will arrive earlier so we can have dinner in the onsite restaurant. It's walkable to the museums and gardens and historical sites, and also to FringeArts in a different direction.
It was a last minute decision and so I went with it and 8n glad I did. Very beautiful and historic building.
Staff was amazing. Breakfast I had 2 blueberry muffins
And a coffee from their Continental breakfast.. perfect 100!;
