The property is 130 years old but well looked after although the floorboards do creak like Pais. Breakfast staff need more drive. We stayed 4 nights and every day you had to ask to have the milk, orange juice and coffee refilled and when the eggs and bacon ran out hey would come back with 2 eggs and a few rashes of bacon. I can understand if it was getting towards the end of breakfast but it was only 8 to 8.30.

Lovely room on ground floor of the old building. Comfortable bed. Nice decor. TV worked well. Bed comfy. Excellent breakfast. No safe in room which would be a bonus.

Great location, clean and convenient, the staff are very friendly and accommodating, however the only issue we had is the pool and spa are being maintained so couldn't be used but they do provide access to Polynesian Spa family pools, and parking is also under maintenance, would be good to be informed of these beforehand to be able to make an informed decision.

This is a charming historic property but it comes with its challenges: if you are a light sleeper the walls are thin so you will hear voices/snoring. For accessibility, there is no elevator. There is no laundry on site, there is a laundromat close by but make sure to have NZ coins. The saunas and pools are out of order - you have access to the polynesian but only the family pool. The toilet also kept going for me all night with a constant dripping noise in the toilet bowl. The door also kept jamming when I was trying to close it - took a fair amount of time to get it shut. I spoke to reception and management multiple times but nothing came of it and I had to get expedia involved to come to an adequate solution. I feel like there is a lack of concern and transparency from management, it isn't a cheap stay but it is close to some of the main attractions in town.

A unique antique property across the street from the Prince's Gates at Government Gardens, hence the name. The hotel common areas are phenomenal, old woods, wallpapers and furnishings well maintained. I rarely photograph my hotel surroundings, but made an exception here - museum like! The dining area and bar were great. Had a breakfast plan that was very good. Spend an afternoon sitting in the lounge in front of fireplace reading. Nice! An easy walk from city center with shopping, dining, parks, thermal features. The hotel's thermal pool was down for repairs, but they provided access to Polynesian Spa's family pool - 10 min walk away. The Spa's lakeside pools were excellent. The room itself was antique/boutique quaint, but very small with minimal amenities. Bathroom was clean, but tiny. Smell of sulphur from the geothermal areas was everywhere. Woke me at 3am one night it was so strong. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Overall a nice stay.

Still a gorgeous property, and the renovated rooms are beautifully done. Lovely staff The only quibble would be the dacron pillows. The luxury of the place calls for higher quality pillows. Other than that. Superb stay.

Pillows definitely need refreshing, they were flat and hard. Overall it’s a lovely property, but carpets and wallpaper are visibly worn in most areas. Great location, and a beautiful historic building.

Unique and cool colonial hotel

Prince's Gate is a nice hotel that leans into its colonial history. It is warm and welcoming and the rooms have a style unlike other places in Rotorua. The location is also fantastic. Parking is only available on the street, not on the property.
