This was our third time staying here. This place has gone downhill. It is dirty, the front desk staff are very rude, the rooms are in bad shape and not well stocked. The common areas are not air conditioned. On our fifth and final night there was a fire alarm at 1 am. Everyone was evacuated. After 1 hour outside we were let back in. Turns out the sprinkler system failed in the room right over ours. IT was coming through the roof in the bedroom makinf the room unlivable. We got a room to sleep in and asked management not to do anything with the other room since our belongings were in there. The room they put us in was equally as bad, the bed was a shambles and fell apart as we laid on it. The next morning we went back to our room to pack. We found the door propped open, and several fans placed around to dry it out. Of course it was still leaking from above so it would never dry out. But the worst was, all our stuff was in the room and the room was wide open. Anyone could have come in stole our stuff. Terrible experience. Stay away from this place as every room is privately owned and the management company doesn't care about anything since its not their rooms.

The room was nice and the views were amazing. We did have trouble with the ac in our room on one of the days and the staff was very prompt on getting it going again. We would definitely stay again!

The suites are spacious and have good kitchenettes. Great view of the ocean and it is nice to be at the end of the island. The marsh on the other side of the hotel is a great place to explore. The beach is great but the pool is abit small.

Shell Island resort is in a great location being right on the beach. It’s convenient that they have a restaurant on site. The amenities are decent but in need of a facelift. The units need refurbishing in terms of the furniture and the fixtures in the bathroom, which were coming out of the wall and rusted. Everything is a little worn out. The staff were generally friendly and helpful. There are pool towels, which is convenient. Overall good place to stay if you don’t mind a little shabbiness. We will probably stay there again.

Resort staff are absolutely amazing and super kind and helpful. The unit that we stayed in was dated and the pullout sofa was dirty. All upholstered surfaces had stains and rips. The sink drain in the bathroom is very rusted The palm tree had grown over the balcony so you couldn’t sit out there without the palms slapping you.

It was nothing real fancy, but very quiet, relaxing and room was comfortable. It was at the very end of the island, so very little traffic and uncrowded beach. Unfortunately the bar/restaurant was closed both days we were there but could easily access other places via Uber or Uber Eats.

We did not know this resort had units that were privately owned and rented out. The unit looked nice, but silverware was dirty, cutting knives were duller than a butter knife and dirty, a few towels had bad stains, fridge smelled horrible, glass was not cleaned, the smell was mildewed and gave me a headache and I have asthma. It was so bad I couldn’t sleep. Restaurant was closed - had to drive back into town for food. Good things-friendly staff, 2 pools and right on the beach, covered parking. Overall - very disappointing- I would never pay $300-400 a night! Not even $100- thankfully I had a credit from Expedia!

Shell Island….she’s tired

While the location is perfect the facilities could use a little love….peeling paint in bathrooms, leaks around balcony doors and windows in common areas as well as what looked to be a roof leak directly in front of the reception desk. First night there we had no bedding for the sofa bed as they “ran out”. We did get it the next day but what lodging facility runs out of bedding? Complementary coffee in the lobby would be a welcome addition. While we enjoyed family time I doubt we would rebook simply due to the maintenance needed to the facilities.

Very disappointed

The room that was booked had several deficiencies. The microwave didn’t work, nor did the TV in the bedroom. The floors were filthy. They had not been swept or mopped. The kitchen cabinets had old food stained on them. There were several lights burnt out in both the living/dining space as well as the bathrooms and bedroom. Overall, if I had spent more time in the room it would have been very unpleasant. Also, the overall cleanliness of the building itself could have been better especially since there have been renovations recently. I had previously only heard nice things about the resort however, after my experience I would not recommend staying there.
