After having struggled with choosing the right hotel in Basel, we were very glad to have settled on Hotel Spalentor. From the historic and convenient location, to the genial and courteous staff, our first stay in Basel was eminently pleasant. The rooms were clean and the breakfast scrumptious. We also loved our tree-framed view of the Spalentor gate, the clean room, stylish decor, and the thoughtful touches including a postcard signed by the staff, and a complimentary Spalentor rubber duck who will accompany us on future adventures. Sadly we only had one night in Basel this time, but hope to return to Hotel Spalentor soon!

The hotel was clean, spacious and comfortable. I would have preferred the bed to have had a thinner duvet as the room was hot and it was too noisy too sleep with the window open. There were tea making facilities in the room and the receptionists were happy to supply extra tea bags when asked. The hotel is 2 minutes away from bus stops to and from the main station, and near a major landmark so it's easy to find. It's also within walking distance of the shopping centre and tourist spots. There was a varied selection of food for breakfast and always fresh fruit in reception to provide an evening snack.

To tell you the truth, I was surprise that this was a four star hotel... The room was ok but the bathroom was very small and it was almost difficult to get through the door (I am a normal size person and certainly not fat!)
