The hotel seems to be in the process of updating, but the outcome so far is that it is a bit tatty and cheaply done such as fixtures, rugs, etc. in one of our rooms, there was no means to control the temperature. The hallway reeked terribly of moth balls. Location was good. It’s an old hotel and has potential, but is unfortunately being managed by someone who cares more about pinching pennies than providing comfortable accommodation.

Room was the starkest I have ever experienced! Plus, barely room to move. It was hot when I entered and no way to regulate—so went down 1 of the 2 crickity elevators to the front desk and he sent the maintenance guy up. He had to unscrew some wall unit and turn off the heat and turn on the noisiest wall/window air conditioner! I will NEVER stay here again!

The location is very convenient but the room itself was not so great. The beds were really old and uncomfortable and the fridge in the room is a really tiny sort of like a toy refrigerator, you can only fit two mini sodas.

Like any of the hotels in NYC, this appears to be one of the charming ones that shows its age but was kept very clean and orderly. We only encountered front desk staff for check-in/out. They were professional and provided us with info that we requested. We got two rooms to accommodate our family of five - basic rooms that faced the noisy street. Windows are not sound proof (didn’t expect that from this older hotel). Bed mattresses could be improved esp for men who weigh more. Bathrooms were clean and rooms were basic, working TV, was able to control temps. No continental breakfast. Overall basic but would stay again.

We stayed 3 nights and although we asked every day for heating in the room it was never resolved. The maintenance guy was able to get the heating working but it was making a scary noise like there was an escape of water. When we asked him to deal with the noise his resolution was to turn the heating off again. Noise off/ Heating off! The front desk clerk was apologetic that we had been cold the whole time. Her manager who was actually beside her, was completely indifferent.

The lack of table/counter space in the room and bathroom felt very frustrating, especially considering one table was very wobbly. It's unclear how thorough cleaning was because I kept finding long hairs (I have very short hair) in the linens, towels, tub, and floor. Also, it was alarming that luggage storage was just an open room for anyone to walk in.

I had nothing but excellence during our two night stay at our hotel in NYC. The staff was friendly and helpful, I felt safe coming in and out of the hotel, the rooms were very comfortable and clean and the hotel had a great, historic vibe to it. It was close to everything also!!!! I’d stay here again in a heartbeat!

Great price, great location, it was nice to have a deli next door. Clean and spacious room and friendly staff - especially Joey who was super nice!!! Make sure there's hot water before you take a shower (We had an issue with that and the maintenance guy showed up quickly and fixed it.)
