I stayed at Dolce by Wyndham Athens Attica Riviera for one night and was upgraded to a bungalow. Unfortunately, the experience quickly turned into one of the most distressing hotel stays I’ve ever had.
While I was away at dinner, someone entered my locked room. Several items were stolen, including jewelry, a portable charger, my AirPods, and a few smaller items totaling approximately $900 in value. I noticed things were out of place upon returning and immediately contacted the front desk. I also attempted to track my AirPods using my phone.
3 staff members responded quickly, and while I appreciate their promptness, I was surprised when one of them questioned whether I had really brought my jewelry with me. I had. The staff used my phone to track the AirPods and ultimately found them in the bushes just outside my bungalow—strong evidence that someone had indeed entered my room and attempted to dispose of stolen items.
The staff asked if I wanted to involve the police, which I did. I was told the police would require me to go to the station, so I quickly packed my belongings to move to a room in the main building (which, notably, has security cameras unlike the bungalows). I accompanied the hotel manager to the police station, only to be told the officers needed to come to the hotel instead.
I followed up with an email listing the stolen items and despite being told they would review key card access records and follow up, I’ve heard nothing back.
