We book Queen bed with kitchen. People smoke inside the room and also some people smoke marijuana. So whole building smoking smell. Ice machine is not allowed to use. I cook in the room and some people complaint and some people punch the wall to make noice. So we cannot rest well. So I feel stress and anxiety. I don't recommend this hotel.

Formal Complaint Regarding Unacceptable Conditions

I am writing to express my deep disappointment with my recent stay at Hotel Newstar in Montreal. The establishment was advertised as a hotel, yet the actual experience resembled that of a low-grade motel. From the moment I arrived, the hallways were filled with the smell of cigarette smoke. An employee openly shared concerning information—that the property previously had issues with bed bugs (though reportedly resolved), and that the housekeeping staff is so overworked that they are unable to maintain proper cleaning standards. My room, available at 4:00 PM, still had wet floors. It smelled like smoke, and the alternate room offered smelled strongly of urine. I had no choice but to return to the original room. Due to these conditions and the negative reviews my children found online, they were too uncomfortable to stay with me the first two nights. When they eventually joined me, we discovered a fresh bloodstain on a portion of the bed I hadn’t checked earlier—an undeniable indication that the sheets had not been changed. I brought this to management’s attention, and the only offer was a 10% discount. I also requested clean sheets before heading out for the day, but when I returned late at night, I found the dirty bedding still on the floor and no replacements on the beds. The front desk stated there were no housekeeping staff available and handed us new sheets to make the bed ourselves. This experience was unacceptable, unsanitary, and extremely dishearten.

The room smelled like smoke and had mice. The door didn’t close properly. We felt unsafe there so we left and found a different hotel. It’s been several days and so far no refund. I now no longer trust hotels.com because the photos and reviews were good. Never again. NO ONE SHOULD STAY THERE.

The hotel is convenient and around restaurants and grocery stores. Didnt like the noise coming from upstairs. Can hear people walking while im trying to sleep. The hallways smell like smoke and seep into the rooms. Cleanliness of the washrooms are questionable. Upon arriving feel slimey tubs. Toilet was diffiuclt to flush. Needs to be repaired. Price was fair. Place needs some tlc. Great staff tho. Friendly and helpul.

Like living in a 3rd world hotel! Our floor sloped toward the window. Lumpy mattress, No clothes hangers, No coffee Pot, No dishes, utensils or cups. Constant Police & Ambulance Sirens & horns 24 hours a day. Security door down dingy hall doesn't Lock! WAY OVERPAID @ $285.00 PER NIGHT! We paid for 1 week funeral, But moved from there 2 Days early, and Didn't Receive a CREDIT!
Mould in corner, No toilet paper on last day.
Constant Fire trucks & ambulances. Dingy parking lot.
Narrow & Stinky hallway.
Lumpy Mattress, Sloping floor.

I stayed here for a week with my partner. I’m very disappointed with how dirty the floor, counters, sinks and shower is. The sinks had rust and stains. The shower is stained pink and needs a good clean. The room is infested by fruit flies. This is more like a motel and too expensive for the experience I got. I needed extra towels but the phone to the front desk wouldn’t work. I tried calling from my android phone and it wasn’t working either. So I had to go to the front desk to ask for the towels and they said they would bring the towels when they are free. Hours have passed and it was getting late around 9-10pm and my partner went to the desk to ask for the towels again. Only for them to say they will deliver them later. There is a major gap underneath the room’s door and the smell of cigarettes coming from the hall is stinking up our room. Our neighbor is also very inconsiderate and blasting music at 10pm. There was a lot of noise coming from their room.
