I'm the day of my check in my ride canceled so i needed to go by bus to Queenstown. I was concerned that i might get there after 8pm. I tried 4 times to call between 8am-8pm and every time the call went unanswered. Twice i left a voice mail (as suggested) asking to be called back. I was not called. When i got to the reception (before 8pm) it was unmanned and i had to call a number. I called and the young female who answered was short with me when i said i wanted to check in. Obviously I had interrupted her dinner despite it being 30mins before reception closed. The check in was mechanically fine but didn't leave me inspired to visit again or to recommend HHQL. I'm not asking for much. Just a little courtesy.

This is a youth hostel. NOT a hotel. The photos made it look nice. It isn't, particularly. It was a holiday weekend (...to be avoided if possible) and everything was expensive in Queenstown, which is probably why i booked a private room here (which unfortunately did not have a private bathroom). Room 30 was on the second floor, and was overheated and there was no fan to use. No fly screens on windows so sandflies can get in. The noise of the plumbing was extremely loud and pretty relentless. I could hear the guy next door urinate loudly, as if he was next to me, peeing into a tin can. The room was opposite the 2 toilets, and the 4 showers of which only 2 were working. The cost of this private room was over $200 NZ dollars. No tea or coffee. No bathroom. No peace and quiet. No climate control. No lift from the ground floor. Banging doors. Banging pipes. Road noise. If it was cheaper, I wouldn't have had any expectations, but it looks like a nice hotel room on the website and it isn't. Thankfully I won't ever stay there again. Or any of their other offerings. "Flash"packer, it is not. Cannot recommend.

Queenstown is beautiful but this shouldn't be marketed as a hotel - it's most certainly a hostel. The room was dirty, the sheets were scratchy, the carpet hasn't been shampooed in ages, the shower doesn't drain, the bathroom floor looks like a 1990's McDonalds bathroom. Not what we expected in any way.

Great Lake view from the hotel, nice comfortable rooms. Parking was hard to find, the street is always occupied with cars, so if you don’t contact the property early then parking becomes a struggle.
