We have stayed at the Stonewall Resort since it first opened. We appreciate the natural beauty and the friendliness and professionalism of their (shrinking) staff. In the past few visits we have noticed a significant decrease in the quality of the rooms and amenities. For the prices charged, they really must do something to update their rooms, particularly the bathrooms. We booked several rooms last weekend. All were lake view rooms and all were desperately in need of updates.The bathrooms were horrible. Stained, broken, poorly repaired porcelain tubs, broken and moldy tiles and grout, and no amenities. I have literally stayed in self-service Holiday Inn Expresses with nicer facilities.
The staff were sparse. We couldn’t find anyone to check us out for purchases at the pool gift shop area. Housekeeping is still offered on an as requested basis. We enjoyed three complete meals, snacks, and drinks at Stillwater’s and TJ Muskies. The food was wonderful, and our waitress, Heather Montgomery, three of the four visits over 3 days was excellent. We truly found our restaurant experience to be the best part of the visit and based on the crowd on Saturday evening and Sunday, that is the big draw to the lodge.
We hope the State of WV and the investors in the Resort will do better, invest more,and give this beautiful location the commitment it deserves to attract more visitors to this gorgeous area in West Virginia.
We will return in hopes that things will improve.
