Very convenient for beach time and walking around for eats and treats. Staff was super helpful and kind. Swift service when I texted their personal text assistant. Perfect family getaway and we can't wait to return.

Will rebook but it definitely needs a facelift!

The great thing about the hotel was the location since it was right on the beach. However, the hotel is old and can use a face lift. Our bathroom lights flickered the whole time that we were there and then one set of the lights died on the second to the last day. We spent about 4 nights and 5 days there. It was our fault that we didn’t call the hotel to fix it but it was annoying as well that the light was dead by the second to the last night. Overall, I would still book the hotel again but it is definitely old and they need to replace the carpet inside or repaint the room to make it feel fresh. We’re still spending about $300(ish) a night for the room so yes, I still expect some attention to details. Another pro was that they allowed us to check in earlier than the expected time at no additional charges. For that, I am truly appreciative. I would rate this a 7 out of 10.

The location is right on the beach, bed was comfortable other than a headboard. Room is average at best but location is great. Dislike: Headboard on bed was filthy and staff cleaned it some and did the best they could to be accommodating.

I was looking for something near the beach (check), walkable to food & shops (check), with a nice pool (check), affordable (check), & not too far from the Naval base where my son could drive over every night after he got off work (check). The hotel met every one of my qualifications, and then some. The staff was so nice and went above and beyond to serve. I would love to stay there again when I go back to San Diego. **The hotel is older, so please know that going in.** HOWEVER, you trade that out for location, location, location, friendly staff, and comfort.

Celebration of Wedding Anniversary and some R&R.

This was our 3rd stay at Surfer Beach Hotel in the last five (5) years. While the closeness to the beach is awesome as well as the ocean views from the balconies, this time I was disappointed. The World's Famous Restaurant which is a part of the Hotel's Property, has significantly increased their outdoor patio area, where they sit larger parties. Because of this, our room (214) felt like it was right over that area, so it was hard to really enjoy sitting on the balcony in the evening because of the noise from the diners. The swimming pool patio area, though separated by a fence, was right up against that area, also. As far as the room goes, however, other than the very tiny shower, was comfortable. We ate at the World Famous Restaurant our first night there and breakfast the next two mornings. The food and service was excellent. Prices a little above average, but because the food was so good, it didn't really matter. All in all my husband and I enjoyed celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary along the beach area and staying at the Surfer Beach Hotel. Access from the hotel to various San Diego attractions was fairly easy. The little shops and small outdoor eating areas along Pacific Beach were really nice and fully accessible from Surfer Beach Hotel.

Clerk Aden was very nice. Others that brought towels, pillows and checked me out also. Mercedes was rude and did not have any customer service skills while talking to me, didn’t even look at me when she asked me what I needed. The lights were off in stairway the first night we arrived and I slipped on a step. Room carpets were very gross I did not want to take my shoes off the whole time I was there, I do not believe the beds were a queen, seemed more like a full. The pull out couch bed was unacceptable, looked to be VERY old. The springs that you could feel when you laid down were almost unbearable and mattress was dirty. So hard to pull out and put back in. Only my husband could do it The pillows hardly had anything in them, that’s why I had to call for more. Parking spots are a joke, can hardly get in and out of the car without hitting the car next to you. My family members also booked a room and it had no air, it was broken! The pictures looked ok online, better then in person. I know they can not control the environment surrounding the area but there was drunk people laying on the sidewalk and we went out to the beach at night right in front of the hotel with children some young, and people came within about 15 feet from us and started having intercourse! There went our family night out looking for shells. I wish I would have booked somewhere else, can’t believe I spent over 2,000 ( including parking) on this place. Extremely disappointed and at some point disgusted.
This is what I looked out at. I did not pay for a view but this was awful when purchasing a personal balcony. Wish I would have taking more pics of room but I only do that when I like the room
