Our recent stay at Fable Hotel Auckland was deeply disappointing and fell far short of the five-star standard it claims. While the rooms and restaurant were nicely decorated and clean, we arrived late after a delayed flight and were left locked outside for 30 minutes, despite ringing the buzzer, repeatedly calling reception, and even contacting Expedia. During this time, there were drug users or homeless people outside the hotel shouting at us, which made the situation feel unsafe and very distressing. When a staff member finally appeared to let us in, it looked as though he had just been asleep. There was no concierge available to help with our bags. Breakfast was chaotic and inconsistent — one morning we were given a very limited buffet, and another we were allowed to order from the à la carte menu without explanation. Complimentary bottled water was missing from the room, and when we asked for it, we were told to drink tap water from the bathroom unless we specifically requested bottles. The gym was extremely poor, with just a single bike and a small weights bench crammed into a tiny space that felt like a cupboard. Overall, this hotel did not provide the level of service, safety, or facilities that a five-star property should deliver.
