At check-in, the two people behind the desk were more interested in interacting with each other than taking the time to check me in. I was ignored for several minutes as they chatted with each other. Finally, the young woman behind the desk checked me into the hotel. Upon arrival in my room, I noted that the hotel had left a bottle of wine and a dessert on the desk. That was a lovely touch. The hotel was quite nice. My room was clean and well-maintained. Breakfast in the morning was good. There is a market next door to the hotel which was convenient to purchase snacks for the room or supplies needed for a day of sightseeing. The park across the street is pretty during the day, but very loud in the evening. In fact, overnight there is a fair amount of noisy activity in the area that made it hard to sleep. As a woman traveling solo on this trip, I didn't feel safe walking outside of the hotel in the evening. If interested in public transportation, the hop-on/hop-off bus picks up directly outside of the hotel. This is convenient if you have a limited amount of time in Lisbon to tour. There is also a trolley that stops around the corner.

Nice time in downtown Lisbon

Everything was good but there is room for improvement: There should have electrical outlets for charging phones and i-pads installed besides the beds. Our room had only one plug that worked which was under the desk (the other plug under the desk did not work). There was one electrical outlet in the outside of the bedroom area (we had a three beds duite) that worked. Parking was available at the hotel which was a bonus. Our room was noisy at night from the street but it settled down. There seems to be a lack of sound-proofing from the windows. The included breakfast was very good with lots of choices. The hotel is in a very convenient place as it is walkable to many sites. We would certainly stay at this hotel again.

Location Awareness

Our stay at Hotel Mundial had both very good but also a somewhat negative aspect. Our room was quite clean & comfortable as well as our largest throughout our entire 18 day stay around Portugal. The rooftop bar is lovely at sunset. Hotel staff was extremely accommodating & always pleasantly willing to assist. We received a lovely unexpected welcome gift. However, the location was both a plus & a minus. It is centrally located being just a few minutes walk to the Metro & many popular tourist attractions. Our issue was the noise at night & into the early morning in Praça Martim Moniz. While homelessness is a global issue, this location does seem to have a greater presence which does contribute to the noise level at all hours. I feel entitled complaining about such an unfortunate issue, but being on vacation does bring an expectation of rest & relaxation. The famous tram 28 is conveniently located just outside the hotel but again, early starts to the bells & running on the trolley tracks does exist. We were on the second floor, just above the hotel restaurant so we were also awoken by the sounds below us of dishes & the movement of heavy chairs starting at 7am. In summary, I would recommend this hotel with a couple of conditions. I would request a room that is not facing the road/square & I would request floor 3 or above. Had our stay been longer we would have requested that change.

It’s a good hotel for price! It offers great restaurant and bar options with views and good food. The staff is experience, friendly and really helpful. It definitely in need of some updating, flooring and bathrooms feel older, but I won’t hold it against them. We had parking for our rental car, and tons of things to do walking distance. The area felt a little bit warm down and had some funky characters at night, but I think it’s due to immigrants and the state of the country with Lisbon being the biggies cities, it’s something to expect. Over all we would stay here again, fair price and good service.
