Clean, quiet hotel

Very nice room. Beds are very firm. It’s a quiet hotel with a close location to Liverpool Station. The front desk person was extremely helpful and friendly. He recommended an exceptional restaurant near by that was outstanding.

Liked the decor, location, and room size. But the balcony door was practically impossible to open, even with maintenance staff trying and only managing to open it once. Door or key lock needs to be replaced. Also, tub took about 10 minutes to fill despite the drain being closed - strange. Service was ok - the reaction to the balcony door issue could have been better, a discount to the room rate would have been warranted.

The room was spacious, with a comfortable duvet and good quality pillows. The location was excellent, situated between two tube stations in a quiet area where no street noise could be heard. However, the mattress was quite firm, and the air conditioning was noticeably loud.

Normally exceptional but wasn't

Not such a perfect experience this time round. Started at the checkin where we was told we had been upgraded as part of the platinum reward scheme. (I had to ask) This however wasnt true we was in the most basic smallest room they do. I usally dont quibble or even bother to look around i just book. The Clayton as ive found is perfect value,comfort style just about perfect. I book on average in London every other week 9 months of the year. Its definitely my go to. It really does appear to be whoevers on the desk as to if they feel like upgrading you. The cleanliness this time round was quite unusually questionable, I found pubic hairs in the bath. Also the fridge wasnt working, the room felt tired with a damaged bath and marks here and there. As i said it wasnt quite as it usally is. Maybe we will try again but i certainly didn't feel as rewarded for our loyalty to the chain how we usally do. There were rooms showing as available on their website which i questioned them regarding however it was dismissed quite abruptly. A shame but it really is pot luck as 95% of the staff are so accomadating especially as a wheelchair user space is such appreciated. When you cant fit down the side of the bed its a real shame.
