I was extremely disappointed with the service at the Hommage Hotel in St. Maarten, specifically from the front desk staff. We arrived around 3 PM, understanding that official check-in was at 4 PM. When we arrived, the young lady at the front desk told us it would only take about 30 minutes for our room to be ready. Unfortunately, that 30 minutes turned into almost four hours, and we did not receive our room until 7 PM.
There was very poor communication throughout this entire process. We received no updates unless we went back to the front desk ourselves, and we had to go up there three separate times before they finally paid attention to us and gave us our room keys. This delay completely ruined our day, especially considering how much money we paid to stay here.
To make matters worse, it felt as though the front desk staff prioritized accommodating pilots over paying hotel guests. As compensation for the excessive wait, we were offered one free drink at the restaurant, which felt inadequate given the circumstances. After such a long delay, at the very least, dinner should have been comped.
I do want to note that the hotel itself, housekeeping, and cleaning staff were amazing—friendly, professional, and welcoming. Unfortunately, the front desk experience overshadowed what could have been a great stay. Management seriously needs to address and improve the front desk service, as it does not reflect the quality of the rest of the hotel.
