Unfortunately, despite spending a fair amount of time deciding on a hotel, this one let me down.
The positives- it was a five minute walk from a subway station, it was surrounded by excellent restaurants and several convenience/grocery stores and was close to both the British library and the British Museum. My brief interactions with hotel staff were good. The room itself was reasonably modern and quite clean.
The negatives were many. Uneven, noisy stairs. Loud door locks. I thought I might’ve been living in a closet under the stairs similar to Harry Potter. This unfortunately was a 12 day stay. The room barely fit the twin bed, let alone an open suitcase. The bed was too firm. The room was often too warm with no way to temperature control. The bed had a duvet, but no sheet. I had many sleepless nights, partly due to the discomfort from the bed, but also just from excessive noise. The window to the room was very old and did not shut fully and because I had a room facing the street, you could hear people talking and sometimes yelling at all hours of the night as there was a pub around the corner. I’m used to hearing a little hallway noise at most hotels, but the walls were so thin between the neighbouring rooms that I could hear the guest next to me using the toilet, and I don’t mean the toilet flushing. The shower could at best be described as lukewarm, and I dreaded having to face a cold shower. There were no face cloths, no tissues. The bath towels were very thin.
