Excellent hotel all round. Lovely helpful staff, clean room and great eating, drinking and relaxing areas. Only downside was not many parking spaces but the hotel was wonderful.

A large and historic property conveniently located adjacent to the rail station. It’s an architecturally significant building dating from when York was a foundational city during the industrialization. Everything about the hotel speaks to its historical relevance to railway. Staff is attentive and helpful.

The hotel is beautiful and kept really clean. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was lovely and clean with all amenities we needed including an iron and ironing board. Unfortunately I got a bad back from the bed and there was no switch to turn the bathroom extractor fan off so it ran all night.

We could simply say that the room decor was miserable! Lighting poor, window so filthy that we could only see dead flies caught in cob webs between secondary glazing and exterior window. A superior room? Bed was comfortable but no chairs. Constant smell of drains masked by perfume room freshener but no ability to get fresh air. Staff so lacking that at checkout between 10 and 11 queues ever present. Had an appointment and simply left room card keys!

Booked through hotels.com but got there to find online images were of wrong/misleading room type. Did not like the room so refused it, Lauren on reception was exceptional and found us a better room (not the one we wanted) they were virtually fully booked. Grand hotel literally next door to train station easy walk and close to city centre.
